So the things that are unique to the different forests are:
Coniferous
-Thorns
-Turkeys
-Milkweed?

Autumnal
-Gourds?
-significantly more maple trees
-Chestnuts?

(Is there anything else I missed?)

If those are the key differences, I think I'd stick with my autumnal forest. Thorns only have like 2 recipies, turkeys I can buy, and milkweed's like thorns. (not to mention available in plains)

P.S.
Are bears really more common in coniferous forests? Heck, I run across multiples every day in my autumnal forest.

Same for Singing Old Logs. (I had over a full chest of them stored up before I started looking into moving. They're everywhere in autumnal forests.)

Milkweed doesn't appear in coniferous forests. Lavender Blewits do.

Chestnuts appear in both. There are no maple trees at all in a coniferous.

Coniferous has but Autumnal doesn't:
Lavender Blewits
Turkeys
Thorn bushes

Autumnal has but Coniferous doesn't:
Maple trees
Wild Garlic
New World Gourds

In my experience all of those things can also be found in other biomes except turkeys and gourds. I've never seen them anywhere besides those locations.

Hi All,

I just started the game a few days ago and am slightly confused as to what each type of forest looks like on the map. Most of the tutorials seem to be made using an older version of the client - Even this section of the wiki doesn't seem updated. Could someone please upload a little snippet of each type of forest as it appears on the mini map? It would be really useful for me!

Thanks :)

Autumnal forests appear bright green and red/orange. (basically like leaves in fall)

Coniferous forests are significantly darker green with bits of dark brown mixed in. (not to be confused with swamps, which are also a dark green but without the brown mix)

Where in the world am I missing "Thorns" and "Witchhats". I have explored what people seem to call "Badlands" and looked/live right beside an Autumn Forest, have ventured out to the dark green forests but NEVER found a single thorn bush/witchhat. Is there a skill that needs to be learned before one can see these items? I have noticed that to be true it seems...

Ive never found an "old singing log" in a forest floor just laying, mostly the rare stump i hunt in...

I don't live near Autumn at the moment so can't take a quick screenshot of that, but here's what a Coniferous bordering on a Marsh looks like. The coniferous is the upper part of the mini map, the marsh is the lower part.

You may need to raise your Frontiers & Wilderness proficiency more to have a better chance of seeing Witch Hats. You can also try hunting for them in forage mode and may want to consider picking up the Mushroom Hunting skill if you don't have it yet. Frontiers & Wilderness proficiency will also increase your chances of finding Singing Old Logs on the ground. Here's a screenshot of what a thorn bush looks like.

AFAIK the odds of seeing foragables are unaffected by both proficiencies and humours.

You're probably right about the humours but I'm pretty confident that you're wrong about the proficiencies. My foraging alt who has 35 Frontiers & Wilderness sees tons more stuff than my new alt who has 10. I also started finding a lot more lime and salt on the ground once I raised Mines & Mountains. My characters who have barely anything in that proficiency hardly ever find lime or salt on the ground. I find it hard to believe that's all a coincidence.

I'm sure that it didn't when I started playing, and if it's been implemented it hasn't been announced, which would be odd since it was for the other proficiencies. Besides, if anything did it, it would be H&G rather than F&W.

As for your characters, do they all have the same foraging skills?

Thank you very much - they sure look almost identical in the mini map!
