You miss the point guys.
I don't care of being killed. It's part of a pvp game. Also getting looted.
The real pain in the ass is tarting over from zero the proficiencies. It took hours...days to improve them

It's a lot easier the 2nd time around, because you know what you're doing.

Um the proficiency loss is part of getting killed, so it kinda means you do care... I know it sucks man but playing this game you have to learn to always be ready for a major loss, either have alt vaults or an alt already built to take over(it's not so difficulty grinding an alt to a decent place once you have some infrastructure going). I keep a good bit of iron, purity seeds and other necessities vaulted and a couple backup characters with humors ranging for 20-50.

The biggest kicker of dying is if you lose your industry base. Building that base takes forever, but it helps you get back on your feet real quick.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I understand but it is still highly frustrating.
I played for more than a couple of years another crafting mmo with very similar concept. I got killed more than 10 times. I even lost tools and weapons of high quality that is very difficult to craft them again.
But I don't loose my skills and that is the good thing. I may be wrong but is very frustrating for me.
It is the reason why I quit this game (even if , I repeat, I've always been a great fan of Paradox).

Anyway,
good luck to you guys that will keep playing.

I left after the first time I was killed; however, the quality of the crafting game dragged me back. I am enjoying building a new character on a fresh server; but then, I am a fan of character growth and will probably find the time when I have every skill in the game learned and my farm and metal operations are running smoothly the most boring stretches in my Salem game play.

I really have mixed feelings about the perma-death mechanic. But what we all need to realize is that it is one of the foundations of the game design and that will not change. This makes the game a niche game serving an audience very few other games serve; thus, I believe the developers do need to hold true to their vision (not that I wouldn't mind a non-PvP spinoff game).

The solution for this is using multiple characters.
