I'm gonna hazard a guess and say it's one of the boats the devs spawned when whales were introduced. All those boats "vanished" and reappeared just north of prov, and then vanished again.

You're fine. Just make another boat. If you leave a sign for the owner of the claim they may allow you to get it back. Think of this as a learning experience and do better next time.
