It's not about the resources. The waste claim is officially called a Trial by Fire. It's costs are negligible for any player wanting to seriously damage a village claim. It's about you having a 24 hour notice that you're going to be under attack, and you can decide to try to defend yourself and your claim. It will be much harder for a raider in most circumstances to raid a claim that has an active player on it.

riker88 wrote:If a raider breaks into your base and destorys your p-claim or leanto you will spawn naked in providence and will have to run back to your base but because there is a town bell there the raider can't simply construct his own claim stone and effectively take over your base.. When you get back to your base, you can repair your walls, build another claim stone or lean-to , and get back to work..

Sure, I guess that could happen, but most likely the raider wants to destroy your claimstone or leanto, because he doesn't want to deal with the consequences of raiding while on another player's claim. Things like on-claim drain or larceny drains and scents being left everywhere. If he's destroys your Homestead, he wants to destroy your Townbell as well in almost all cases. Maybe you have an iron wall and 128 braziers around the Townbell and the raider simply can't get to it. Then, yes, you can walk all the way back home from Providence and start over again. Besides, everything being equal, it's much easier to destroy a Townbell than a claimstone that is your homestead, because a claimstone can't be destroyed if it has silver in it.

No. The reason why everyone says the best is to keep silver in your claimstone and build a townbell is because then your Pclaim is safe from being swept out from under your feet while you sleep for 8 hours.
Claimstone=dead
Claimstone with silver=dead with eminent domain
Claimstone with silver and Town bell = if you logon once every 24 hours at least you can watch all your **** disappear and die watching it happen.
To alter those destinies is to thrive and survive.

A leanto can be destroyed by anyone who doesn't mind leaving a waste scent (leaving a scent like that can get you killed if the wrong person finds it), or it can be claimed over with a pclaim and destroyed without a scent, but the person has to have a writ and think stealing your stuff is worth the cost.

A pclaim can't be destroyed if you keep it paid. Make sure the silver in it never drops to 0. The structures and things ON the pclaim can be destroyed by a raider any time, but if your defenses are good, very few will try. And 'good' isn't even difficult to attain, good means a stone wall and a loose collection of braziers and torchposts. Get yourself a good strong line of brazers and torchposts and a plank or brick fence and almost no one will try it.

A town bell can be destroyed by a waste claim or if there is no silver in it. So, if you have a bell, you want to give it extra walls and defenses, and extra walls for any expansion stones you might build too. A waste claim takes 24 hours to activate but can be destroyed after 20 hours. So, you have some warning that something will happen and can flee, or prepare to defend, or try to destroy the waste claim before the raid starts.

This character was on popham with a p-claim filled with silver, I logged in a few days later and I was naked in town. I know I still had silver on my p-claim because it was full when I logged out, so how did that happen? , never did a crime

Some possibilities include that you actually were a victim of a town bell buy-out, either because there was an established town near you that didn't want you there, or because someone thought you looked rich enough to bother buying and placing a town bell and building up the authority to actually eminent domain your pclaim from scratch.

Or possibly you filled your claim stone to full and then expanded it significantly before logging off. The bigger a claim is, the more upkeep it needs so if you expanded enough, it could have gone from having a couple months worth to only a couple days, in which case someone could have destroyed it outright if it ran out of silver.

And you definitely made the pclaim your homestead? If you still had a leanto as homestead and forgot to switch, it being destroyed could do that even if you own a pclaim.

there were no towns nearby, and the claimstone was my homestead. I'm certain it was good on silver
