This guide is wrong with most numbers and featues very little information in general about the radius, efficient coverage, splash damage and much more. Can't call it anything but a bad "guide". Heffernan was part of the people that were at hunka and yet he failed to notice their flaws. He is not someone to give any advice, definitely not a "guide".

I do recall much more usefull topics than this one.

Besides the fact that I have achieved a fair bit of my personal aims in Salem, I have never written a combat guide. I do not know why you have to keep the B/S up but all which I have said above is true.

For a basic guide it is not horrible. You are talking about the defenses of a specific town. The guide does not go over any of that just basic definitions of the items which in game text does not give a lot of information either. Heck by the description of a brazier it seems like it may kill darkness creatures to the uninformed reader.

Do you have to replace it? I thought splash damage works only, when the "second" wall taking splash damage is of same or less strength. So it would be possible to build from outside to inside a layer of better and better fences. That is what I read in (maybe old) forum threads.

My defense right now is: Split-rail Fence outside, followed by a Stone Hedge. That is what I, as a newbie, could build. Even though finding granite was not that easy. I planned to build the next best fence directly behind the Stone Hedge. Is this a big mistake, because Splash damage will hurt me?

To me, being an authentic newbie for the sake of discussion, this guide was helpful, mostly because of the number of phlegm you need to break a wall. This was new to me and not to be found in the wiki. And it is scary that my stone wall could be broken with less than 100 biles. So much for a good sleep.

These are merely explanations for those whom are too lazy to look at the wiki or understand the game fairly well.

It doesn't cover the topic of multilayered walls of different kinds, spacing out walls, protection of boundary stones in a town(I mean, you did mention towns after all)

Number 1 is a pretty bad example for a spot that is highly defended for personal use. Just cause it has brick it is a good defense? And it only has 4 braziers that are easily dousable once the only wall is broken. If you really want to protect personal goods from all townies you should have a mine along with multilayered walls, brazier sections separated by multiple gates, and even some torchposts, you don't even have torchposts+braziers in that example.
Also, as the townleader the example you should have screenshotted including the TownBell, because the TownBell should be off-limits for everyone but the townleader.

Number 3 is a fundamental thought
Number 4 is ...a reminder
Number 5 is merely a suggestion,
Number 6 is not defending. It is running.

mad that you didn't get the scalp?

why stay and fight a fight you can't win and loose the most valuable in this game, your character?
anything else can be rebuilt and regained, but the time you invested in your character!!
so, if you can't win, get going!

a)split rail is waste of time if somone got skill to raid he is very likely 100+ bile char.
b)To me it seems like majority of active people have 200 - 500 bile main chars so even plank is qestionable. Plank is just defence against weeker raiders. There is just few reall newbies I think as you got to be extremly lucky patient or love repeting grind/starting over again to not quit after somone kills you or raid you for no reason every month.
c)bilidng stronger defence seems to encorage more people to break in expectation of higher loot. I dont have xp as raider but every one keeps saing that if somone strong whants to break in he breaks in. Its just qestion how bored is he to waste his time doing it.
d)unfortenetly some people are so bored or joining salem with pure goal to grief and are picking every claim no matter if its newbie and kill owner on sight. Smarter ones just wait for some time or so till there is someting to loot you later. Others say that raiding is too dangerous right now, not sure who is right.

Transporting loot of of the base is more timeconsuming and anoyng operation probably than breaking in trugh all the defence. :) Maybe best defence is just to have 1000 chests full of grass and bore atacker to death with it :D.

Mix in a few butterfly trap chests to really annoy the raiders Kozzy.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
