tracking is always on it turns on when I log in... if someone stole them wouldn't it leave evidence

After you mentioned the fact you are a not a hermit, I just assume that most likely a town member messed with them

no we needed them and they were gone so I bought more then they came back we have been off game for many hours logged on and they were just chillin there

please note that if you use this feature of my client, it will not immediately shows scents in the area you log in to. Tracking is enabled after the map is loaded, so you will need to reload the map to be able to detect scents there (e.g. porting to boston and back) similar to when you would have enabled tracking manually after logging in.
