Will Fishtraps deteriorate if I placed it on unclaimed rivers?

Presumably they will as anything not on claimed land takes decay ticks. You should test it and find out.

our fish traps haven't decayed yet. It seems they follow the rules for tools (sleds, canoes, ...) and don't ever decay.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

it is, but you'll have to carry them / place them on a sled or cart.
Of course, it's larceny to take them from actively claimed land if such is the case.

How do they work? Do you place anything and leave it overnight? Put it on shallow water of course.

I filled mine up with berries and left it. 8 hours later I had a pike and a trout in there. If I had used the same amount of berries on lures instead I would have caught at least a dozen fish. Doesn't seem worth using; at least for low-tier fish.

Different stuff in the trap yields different fish. Sorts of fish depend on location where you put the trap.
It is useful when you don't want to spend your time fishing (and I am also unlucky while fishing). Like turkey farming - you spend more than you get, but you get diversity and fun.

Left it in the middle of the river for hours. Nothing changed :)) Just on the walkable part.
