Making Leather

Postby Biliardfun » Fri Dec 30, 2016 3:55 pm

Hi guys!

Is this leather making method still working? Because i've tried it and didn't work. Only 1 leather soaked the 10 liters of tanning fluid. Is there any other option making leather from less tanning fluid?

Thanks for the help! :)

You need to have 10l of minimum of 5% taning fluid to make limed hide into leather.
You need to lime the hide (i believe any concentration over 1% of milk of lime works) and then you take that limed hide and put it into taning tub.
Taning tub holds 100 litres which is enough to make 10 Lhides into leather.
Putting a brain into a bucket full of water(10l one) will result into making taning fluid of 5% concentration.

Clearly Biliardfun needs more help than simply clarifying the leather making process. Here we have an opportunity to set Biliardfun's world right-side-up and provide information that will forever change a pilgrim's life, yet Zodd presents a disjointed response that barely gets our new adventurer out the door.

To Biliardfun: No, the leather making process described in this 4+ year old thread is no longer accurate. I suggest you use http://salemwiki.info. In this particular case, http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Leather would give you information and links that describe terms, processes, and outcomes associated with leather.

The wiki is not always correct or complete, but it is a resource you should be using frequently.

I agree, the Wiki is a great place to start for any question.

To simply the leather making process, I will share what I have found to be the easiest.

First, each hide much be dried on a drying rack.

In order to create leather, each hide must be limed, using Milk of Lime. This is created by using lime with water, and I do not believe the concentration of this matters at this time. It will require 2.5L per hide, or 10L per 4 hides.

Next, you must create tanning fluid at 5% concentration minimum. The best way to achieve this is to use 1 brain per 10L of water, or to boil bark, where in a clay pot 4 bark will be boiled to created 3L of tanning fluid at 5% concentration.

You will need 10L of 5% tanning fluid per limed hide to create leather, using 40L per tanning tub along with 4 limed hides.

In the event that a hide turns into Foetid Ooze instead of leather, the 10L of tanning fluid will not be used up in the process.

Hopefully that covers the basis of it, and anyone feel free to correct anything I missed.

Split this question off from the super ancient topic that got necroed. Please don't do that, just make a new thread next time.

10l water + lime + 4 skins = 4 Limed Hide (if you have 15l bucket water + 1 lime = 6 Limed Hide)
put 4 Limed Hide into tub + 4x (10l water + brain) = 8h = max 4 leather
nothing change

you can't get around the 1 brain per leather rule, but you CAN immediately turn the limed hides with full green bars into leather by simply adding more tanning fluid - as long as you don't take them out, the timer will not reset and just continue when tanning fluid is available again.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Again had to split this off from the ancient thread. Stop necroing threads.
