All of the 30-45 minute timer foods are better payout all in all, and he should instead use those with restores for them. Fishing traps and crawdads for blood work just fine. Caterpillars fed with high purity cabbage purchased on the stalls. Just pick all the honeysuckle and pick caterpillars under there. Bugs are easy to restore with green bellpeppers, shellfish with wild garlic. Some stuffed wild turkey restored with domestic garlic for finishers.
Edit: Same advice i'd give anyone : cook one of every food, run some math, theorycraft what would be better, check wiki for variable ingredients for foods and restores. It's not too difficult just have a wide range of foods and never let efficiency drop too low.
