help! why can't i build my gate here?

so i've finally started building my wall. i really want a gate in this spot, and took care to try to line the posts up correctly. but when i click on build gate to east/west, i just walk to where it would go and nothing happens can someone please help me with this? i really really want my gate there.

does it give you the option to build the gate?
if so try building the gate from the other side from were your standing at.might not let you cause you are too close

Wait, did you hold shift when placing the cornerposts? If yes, that's your problem right there, you should always let them snap to grid. If not, maybe it's the terrain, try paving the green stuff.

it does look like the bottom cornerpost is a bit too much to the top left, and the top one a bit much to the bottom right. Always place cornerposts without shift (wiggle them around a bit when placing to ensure locking onto the grid)

From earlier personal mess-ups, I know the gates are slightly lenient with wrongly-placed cornerposts, but there are boundaries not to be crossed.

ok thanks, i did hold down control when i was placing them. i thought i'd done a good enough job, but maybe not. i do get the option to build a gate, and i have tried it from every side and angle possible. i guess i'll try paving before i go knocking down my posts to try again.

You should be holding SHIFT to snap to grid, not CTRL.

Hold SHIFT and move your mouse wheel a click or two to ensure the piece snaps perfectly on a desired tile
