If the only thing you plan to do is to kill rabbits and crickets, yeah. Chipping stone cost phlegm. You also want to carry some food. The more stones, the less food.

Why chip stones when you can pick them up out of stumps?

Doesn't flint, granite, and smooth stones (along with dross) work, too? I thought they did, but I've not bothered with a slingshot because I have no problems aggroing with stomp.

If you're using Ender's stomp to aggro is easy. Just get the camera overhead. Chase them around a bit till they run back by you (they always do eventually) and stomp when they're within about 2 tiles or so. They'll come attack to interrupt the stomp. If you're just using the default client, it's a bit trickier to judge distances, but with practice, you can pull it off efficiently.

They do.

I have low biles around 10 and I have been killing mass amounts of crickets.. The method I have been using is the slingshot (pretty easy to make at low lvl) method. As for food.. I usually just pick up whatever berries are around and makes berries on a stick as I go. My biome is full of berries and grass though. I grab only 11 stones as someone pointed out the cricket takes the place of the stone when you kill it. It does take some getting use to the aiming but once you got it down you can hit almost every time, im getting to where I can time moving shots about 1/4 of the time.

I also believe that someone pointed out at 7 biles it just takes a stomp then uppercut to down them...if you dont kill with the uppercut, most of the time you can step back and uppercut again for the kill. I have never had to uppercut a cricket more than twice even with very very low yellow bile. Timing the stomp is the hardest part as ive noticed that crickets move at different speeds and have different hop lengths. Using enders client helps alot for changing the camera to top down view for stomping. Chasing the crickets around the map waiting for them to run into something or across your path (they seem to run from me never to me) seems like more of a waste of biles then just chipping the stones at the start or picking them up as you go.

You also never have to worry about multiple agro unless you put yourself in a bad position to start out with and end up stomping more than what you agro'd. With this method I usually get two cricket teams and then head back with whatever else I have picked up on the way...this is done with NO backpack.. I have enough for one just not sure I want to spend the silver or just save it and make them myself later. Snakes are way easier to kill then crickets but there is a chance of poison. Those are my one week old newbie thoughts on the subject. :)

its summat to do with all that dross, I usually take about four, if I dont hunt then I dont mind chucking them away for better stuff *shrug
