the better purity mines you have, the more pure the ore, and thus the more pure the things you make with the ore. the important thing that I've read is you can only find mines that match the purity of you woo-woo wand. so if your woowoo wand is low lvl you only find low lvl mines, high lvl ones find low lvl and high lvl.
here to have fun. and horde turkey feathers. Jamestown.

Search the forums for mine purity. Its a rather long and expensive process.

1) You can't open the doors bcos is has a lock on it & the previous owner holds the keys.
2) Since u are only 5 days , i assume you can't even scratch the stone wall let alone destroy the wall . in other word, if someone were to repair the hole in the wall, you will be locked in.

I would suggest build outside the town , if u really want to build inside , wait till u can destroy the gate , then build ur own gate & lock/key.
best to find a place when u can see forest, grassland & a river/lake for the materials you will need , of course u can roll alts to gather materials that u need from other part of the maps. For water , u can always carry a few buckets & port to boston to get it. :D

Note : Best to build ur home next to a mine as you can store movable items inside the mine , this save up space above the surface = save silver on space upkeep ;) . Use Woo Woo Wand to find the minepoint & settle beside it but remember not to build anything on top or 1 tile from the minepoint so u can build a mine in the future. Woo woo wand can find a lot more mines than Rods but the down side is you will not know what purity the ore mines is until u build one to get the ore but since u just need it for storage space & normal iron bars for nails , its ok. As for lime , hope there is a lime quarry nearby or u can roll an alt char to settle near a lime quarry or u can smelt iron without using lime.
I just found 8 minepoints near my home last nite with a woo woo , & 3 of them is only 20 tiles distance from each other.

he could always put additional locks on those doors, that'd make them walls.

Now that I'm not on my phone I can address the mine purity thing.

You build Dowsing Rods out of Iron. Dowsing Rods will only find mines that are within 10% of the rod's element values, either plus or minus. By repeating this process you can find higher-purity mines:

1. Find a mine site
2. Build a mine entrance
2.a. Sample the ore and make sure the purity is better that what you have
3. Smelt two iron bars using NO LIME AT ALL (as this will dilute the purity)
4. Use the two pure bars to create a Dowsing Rod
5. Find the next mine and repeat

To save yourself a little bit of time, you can keep your older rods. If you can see a mine with your highest-purity rod but can't see it with your lower purity rods then chances are good that it is better than your best rod.

Just keep in mind that I'm regurgitating what I've read on the forums. I've yet to go through this process myself.
