Inheriting

How exactly does inheriting work ?

My main character was recently killed. I had an alt that also lived in the same area and has rights to trespass, etc and he can still access all areas as before, but I am reliably informed he cannot actually inherit the claim and clicking on the claim stone does nothing. So I created a new character as I read on the forums I needed to do and sent him via the guide to my alts claim since I could no longer lead him to the original claim (that homestead secret died with my main character). However, he cannot actually access the main claim since he was not on the original list.

So, what did I do wrong ? Do I have to destroy his leanto ? Do I have to get settling or trespassing, etc, before I can inherit ? Is there a time issue here (as in how much has passed) ? What prerequisites does the new character need to have ? I'm very confused as to how this all works practically....I can't see how the new character could gain access to the claim if the principle is dead - can't see how that works without breaking and entering, etc; but then this is a new character, so how could he have those skills ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Make a new character, then there will be a man at the entrace of the weird house, talk with him and inherit the selected character. (at the start area btw, when youre customizing your character)

Done

Thanks - that solved the problem.

Not fun losing your main man....be extremely paranoid is the only advice I can give.Trust no-one and always have logout ready ! Better to lose a twink than countless hours of work for no reason other than someone else feels like it. The part that hurts the most is not listening to your own advice. Painful lesson learned.
