Game/Map Loading Issues

Postby Redemption » Fri Mar 29, 2013 9:52 am

Hi, I have taken note that every night around the hours of 2am est to as late as 6am est my server load is horrible. As I walk across the map every 6 to 10 steps stops to load and can take 10 minutes or more to even get a picture back of the game. Basically leaving me to stay around my camp during those hours, as It is nearly impossible to forage beyond my domain. This has also left me in dangerous situations as the animals on the game appear to keep moving even though I am caught in this black limbo of loading nightmare. Stressing as to will I be KO'ed and lost everything in the 10,15,20 minutes it may take to load.

I have played enough online games to know the server is not being bogged down with people logging on during the hours I mentioned. So that leaves me wondering why the server is not at full speed/power at all times? I would really really love to see this problem addressed asap. As making sure your servers have enough backbone 24/7, is a pretty basic "NEED" in running successful online games.

Thanks

Could be the server is doing some backend database management stuff during those hours, such as updating minimaps, backups, etc. that puts an extra strain on some things. This is something only loftar can answer, though. All I (or anyone else here) can do is guess. If it's very consistent (as in every night at these hours), I'd put my guess there. However, if it was this, most everyone playing at those hours would see the increased load. To note, assuming that is EST and not EDT, GMT -5, then hours would be 0700 to about 1100 GMT. Since the servers are at GMT +1, that's some really odd hours to be doing this sort of thing.

It could well be your ISP doing the same thing, though, and your datastream is getting a big nerf because of it. You might want to contact your ISP and find out if there's an issue. So far there's been complaints off and on of lag, but never anything consistent with times. You might also want to try using some network diagnostic tools to find out what exactly is lagging up. It's a big network out there and localized issues are quite common, especially in the wee hours of the morning when a lot of services may be doing data backups and transfers.

Yes it is consistent every single morning. I have the fastest DSL offered by my local provider.

Doesn't matter how fast YOUR connection is. It matters how fast the connection is between you and the system your trying to connect to. There's sites my 20 Mbps connection crawls along at dial-up speeds. (Slower, even... I've had faster connections to some sites back when I had a 56k modem.) This is the sort of traffic I speak of. This is why I suggest you contact your ISP. If you're the only one experiencing this problem, your computer, your connection, or your service provider should be the next places to look.
