Mine Level

Postby Sarge » Wed Mar 13, 2013 9:14 am

I have a couple of noob questions about the mine level:

- Is it a y-lvl persistent accross the map, like HnH, or does each mine have its own map, like the interior of a building?
- If it is a persistent y-lvl,
- Is it subject to the same/similar vulnerabilities as a mine lvl in HnH and should therefore be protected in similar ways (internal walls, etc)?
- Can you dig from your mine lvl to someone else's mine and access his upper lvl area via his mine ladder?
- If so, can a mine hole only be built where you've successfully prospected, or anywhere (next to someone's wall for, e.g. raiding purposes)?
- Does the above ground claim area also cover the y-lvl or does it require it's own claim?
- What structures can be built in a mine lvl (e.g. tilled farm area, buildings, walls)?
- Is there only one mine lvl in Salem or can a mine be built in a mine to achieve multiple y-lvls?

EDIT: Is it actually called a z-lvl... or did I get it right?

Don't know about y-lvls and such but, each mine has it's own map, like a house.
No you cannot mine into someone else's mine.
A mine can only be placed in a prospected place that shows the mark for it.
The claim only has to cover the mine entrance, not the entire interior.
Structures, not sure, but you cannot have fields in them now.
For now there is only one mine level.

structures which require paving/dug soil (pretty much all serious buildings) are impossible, since you cannot pave/dig in a mine. Liftable things CAN be placed (chests, loom, anvil, etc). Coal clamps can also be built underground, but timber piles cannot (sadly).
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

From a graphics design point of view, y is apprantly meant to be up or down, so it probably should be called y-level, but I dunno, never heard anyone call it a y-level

Sorry for the derail, but to quickly answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_ ... dimensions

Back to topic: No idea if the devs plan to eventually go to the mining system that was introduced in w4 of HnH or not. It has been requested by several of us.

Its not a derail since it was a question asked by the op. Usually z refers to depth though, hence why I would call it a y-level, but then I guess it depends on whos reference and how you want to do it

I mean with ground, depth could mean a number of different things, but logically I guess the contours of the surface would be depth. I think I just answered my own question about why it is z-level.
