Is there a hotkey for going back up a menu level?

I've been learning all the different hotkey combinations for crafting recipes that I commonly use, but one frustration is that when I mistype and end up in the wrong menu, there's no easy way (that I know of) to go back up a level (or to the root menu).

Is there a hotkey for going back up a menu level? It would be nice to have full navigational control of the menus from the keyboard. All I have to do is not confuse the hotkey combos with the ones I memorized for Dwarf Fortress.

have you tried escape? It goes back to the main actions menu, so not just one level, but if you're memorizing the combinations that wouldn't be a big problem

Hmm, I hadn't tried escape yet. I kept just thinking "wouldn't it be great if Backspace took you back up a level?".
