I built a fence on top of where my alt logged out.

So now when I log in I'm just asked if I want to teleport and lose all my inventory, which I don't want to have to lose.

Is there any workaround besides "Bash down the fence"? Because it's going to be a while before I have enough Phlegm to be able to do that without it taking many hours.

Raise your phlegm, a couple of pumpkin pies should raise you enough depending on your current level.

No workaround. Get flem up to break fence, or say goodbye to your dudes inventory.

Depends on what you have to lose...

You can log in there, take the port back to home, and then use your other character to pick up what you can. Some will get stuck in the fence, other items will drop out around the fence you can get back.

I made this mistake when building a boat. I decided to log the character back in upon which the inventory spilled around the boat. I ended up having to destroy the incomplete boat as I couldn't pick up the items I wanted from the alt.

Surely the client could just shift the character to an empty space nearby similiar to the 'lean to' mechanic when you use a claim secret to spawn an Alt in your base?

A great solution, yes, but one that is potentially very hard to code up properly to prevent bug abuse, such as jumping over walls.

It would actually be the server that controls where the character is or isn't. That's one of the core definitions of an MMO. Without it, you lose persistence and the game can be easily hacked.
