Scents

When you pick up a scent it says track : Perpetrator, or Claim. If you pick perpetrator and he or she is offline what happens? And how does summoning work? Do you just need the evidence in your inventory and then go to your homestead and right click it?

1) It says the perpetrator is offline.
2) You track to the homestead. When you are there you take the evidence and right click the ground around the homestead to summon their character into the game. If it is a claim, you can right click the evidence anywhere on the claim.
3) If the homestead is a leanto you can just destroy it, and summon/instakill the perpetrator back at your own homestead.

I am still confused. Someone murdered me and I found a track (he killed like 6 people in the same spot) it said he was not online, and then the murder track just appeared in my inventory.... what do I do with the murder track when it is in my inventory? How can I get back at this serial killer?

if the perp is offline the game will tell you so, if you can locate their homestead location and click the evidence item on/around their homestead it should force log them online.
if they are online it will give you a directional arrow towards them so you can fight them in combat.

the item in your inventory is what you use to force summon someone who is offline. if you use track claim it will lead you to their homestead (provided you collect enough evidence (!) to build up the charge meter so it doesnt run out until you find their homestead.
same if you use track perp should they be online. if you know their homestead location you can give the evidence to a player to summon/kill them if you are unable to personally.

How about scents on stolen items ?

I was told there were three options..

track person track homestead or track item

but i have another friend who says you cannot track items..

so can you track items ? and if so how does that work

You select track item from a larceny scent, and if the item still exists in the game world somewhere you will get an arrow that points to the location of the item...I don't really know what happens if you track something that no longer exists, probably nothing.

If they laundered the goods and there are no items to track it is not an option on the tracking window. If someone takes a box off of your claim, the box is the stolen item, not its contents. Typically I will do this, then just destroy the boxes...
