Newbie with many questions

Postby gadzooks » Mon Jan 07, 2013 9:07 pm

First I read sevenless guide and did find it very helpful, but I still have questions I can't find basic answers to
1.Ok so I am confused with the humours. On the main screen, the bars are Grey, Red, Yellow & Green. I found one thread explaining gluttony pretty good http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3209&p=35172&hilit=gluttony#p35172
But from this explanation, when you hover over a food item, the "heals" colors are Red, Green, Blue, Yellow being Blood, Phlegm, Yellow Bile, and Black Bile respectively.
So this leads me to believe that the main screen bars Green=Phlem & Grey=Yellow Bile?? (Red=Blood)
However when I choose the "Run" option, it warns me it will make me lose phlem fast. Ok fine, so I run and down goes the Grey bar? I thought phlem was green?
I don't need an explanation about using gluttony (at this time at least) Just a clear answer to the color coding.

2.How do I deposit into the bank?

3.All characters show as ??? If I right click them, I can name them but then they show in my buddy list. What if I don't want them as a buddy? What if I just want to name them so I avoid them?

4. Homestead and secret codes. So I have a homestead, made a secret code but am confused about the control options here. Whats with all the colored boxes? If I check trespassing, does that mean people can or cannot trespass?

5. I know you can die in this game. Can you even be killed while logged off? I also don't have the skill to attack another player, but they can attack me right? Even if I didn't do anything?

6. Real friends in game, how to I find & add them? Do we need to be in the same area (ie Boston, Roanoke)? Is there a way to fast travel visit them?

7.Obviously stealing and fighting are part of this game, but is there any control over that? Is there a report button? Are older, wiser players just allowed to target the new people?

I might add more questions as I keep playing. I appreciate any help and suggestions. Thanks!

1. Green = black bile and Grey = Plhegm - would agree, is a bit backwards.
2. Bank is used to pick up purchased funds, don't think you can deposit (use an alt for a bank)
3. This is the "fun" of salem. It's meant to be a bit harder to play. You can name anyone you want...including "Don't talk to this guy" so you know who they are next time. This is only a name for your benefit.
4. In your friends list, every friend has a color associated with them. On your claim, the trespass, etc are privs you give that color code.
5. I think you can if you commit a crime and someone tracks you down and summons you.
6. You can make them a kin and use the free travel at the first of the game to go to your (or their) homestead using the secret codes
7. There is no report button. If someone has the ability to trespass, steal, murder, etc...they can. Use the House of Burgess forum for crimes and such.

Good luck and have fun!

5. Don't log out in combat. (it leaves your character in game) Don't log out while you have the Crime! debuff. (It leaves your character in game until the debuff runs out) Finally, if you commit a crime and someone gathers evidence from it, they can use the evidence to summon your character while you're offline. (So if you're going to commit a crime, expect to lose the character. Use an alt.)
7. If things are stolen from your homestead, turn on tracking and look for evidence. (they look like !) You can gather up evidence of the crimes and then use that to track down the perp and get revenge. (or find someone to get revenge for you)

1. Grey = Phelgm, Red = Blood, Yellow = Yellow Bile, Green = Black Bile. The colors in the tooltip for food are tied to the food's alchemical properties. Salt = Red, Mercury = Green, Sulfur = Blue, and Lead = Yellow.

2. You don't, you only withdraw money. For instance, if you purchased silver from the store, it would be stored there for you to retrieve it.

3. Memorizing them lets you give them a name. Yes, it puts them on your buddy list but it doesn't put you on theirs. Going one step further and making them your kin would display their actual name and you would be added to their list as well.

4. Checking the box gives that permission to the corresponding color. You can assign colors to people in your buddy list. They will then have whatever permissions you set for that color.

5. If you log off while in combat or with a crime buff on you, your character will stay in the game and can be killed. If you commit crimes other than trespassing, you will leave evidence that can be used to summon your character online even when you're offline, they can then be killed. Otherwise, your character is not available to be killed when you're offline.

6. You can add friends to your buddy list by meeting up with them in the main city and adding them as kin or by entering their homestead secret through your buddy window. There are two ways you can visit each other. 1. You can form a party and walk to them, using the party arrow to help guide you. 2. You can use your free wilderness port that you get as a new character to go to their personal claim. To do that, enter their homestead secret at the wilderness guide, hit enter, and then click the button. If you walked out of the city to set up your first personal claim and still have the free wilderness port available to you, be warned that using it to visit a friend will set a new lean-to for you at their claim and that will be automatically set as your homestead, which could make it difficult to get back to your own personal claim.

7. Anyone will criminal skills can target anyone else. Putting down a personal claim will keep random noobs from walking up and taking your stuff. Building walls and braziers will slow down more advanced criminals. There's nothing you can do to completely lock people out of your stuff but there are things you can do to make your place a more difficult and less desirable target. For starters, find a good location well away from other people. That will usually buy you some time and it's nice not having to compete with others constantly for resources.

6. You also have to be playing the same server. I've heard there will be travel between the servers in the future, but it's not implemented yet.

#1 is a perfect example of what I have been trying to say in this topic http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2959.

I oppose traveling between servers. I don't think it's fair that a current 6+ months old character from one server (Plymouth) should be able to travel to a current 2 months old server and wreak havoc. This would be yet another way to target newer players (new compared to the "veterans").

If they open Plymouth to the other servers it will be Armageddon.

For Plymouth or for the other servers? o.O

Are there any 6 month old characters on Plymouth? The way people are talking, sounds like a lot of people have died a few times. Is Plymouth the oldest server?

There are (maybe not quite six months yet, but close).

Some have.

It is.
