What happens if, as a criminal, you never build a leanto, own a claim, or take a free wilderness spawn? Can you then not be summoned?

That's my understanding of it, they could just summon you right at their feet and stab you in the face.

This is correct as it's a temporary fix for a broken mechanic.

Also, the vengeance seekers could break into your place, smash your homestead (if it's a lean-to), go back home, and summon-kill you there. There's upsides and downsides no matter what you decide to do. It's just that summoning is bugged right now when the homestead is a claim.
