New player, am I doing it right?

Postby wildone » Wed Dec 12, 2012 1:38 am

So far I've played for about 3 hours

All I've done is just walk, walk, walk. Picking up everything, learning skills, putting into proficiencies.

I always seem to have a massive surplus of inspirations and (lesser so) food. I always keep my humor bars full.

The only thing holding me back is the slowness at which my inspiration blue bars increase. So I figure I should get more BB. I've got 10 BB btw.

Am I doing the right thing? Or is there something better I could be doing?

[btw, absolutely awesome game. I have 1 little thing which I don't like, but I didn't like it in HnH either (the fact that eating lots of 1 humor makes it harder to get other humors..) I didn't like that in HnH and I don't like that in this, but I digress]

You're doing the right thing so far. Until you get a bit of silver and someplace to call home, foraging is pretty much the game.

You might try keeping your humors a bit balanced, but sounds like you're having a good start. Yellow bile and phlegm can be a bit harder to get leveled up early on until you get a few skills complete, but once you get some farming and hunting, you can easily catch up to around 20s, so it's not a critical point.

Also, you can focus on the learning skills to speed up how fast you learn from inspirations too. (Literacy, A Formal Education, and Aristotelian Logic)

How would I get some silver? (Edit: Nvm, I guess I need to travel back to boston to get silver..)

Also when I used the wilderness guide, I got an awful place in the middle of badlands. :(

I see, I will aim for literacy, thanks!

Well, you can either get the hiking skill and just start wandering. With that, you can build your own lean-to and then set it as a homestead. After you wander so far, set up a new homestead so if you get caught by a snake or bear you won't get sent clear back "home"--where you originally started. OR you can save up the 30 silver and try the wilderness spawn again.

Personally, I'd rather go trekking across the wilderness. That guide can leave you in some pretty confined locations at times.

The initial time should be spent wandering in search of good terrain anyhow.
