How can you tell when prospecting is a waste of time?

Something that might make prospecting a little less obnoxious would be adding the "mine node" to the radar on the custom clients. It'd still only appear on a dowsing rod, but you'd be able to identify it without having to zoom your camera all the way out. Might even have a higher range, as I'm not sure how the max camera range compares to max detection range.
