This would say otherwise, especially since it was carried by colonists to the new world, but well...yeah, you can't do anything to criminals in this game, else you'll leave scents as well.

cept there is no "legal" system for enforcing this. If my friend breaks in and you kill them that doesn't mean there isn't evidence that it didn't happen. The law in salem is more frontier law type stuff.

By that concept there's no such thing as crime scents at all though is there? It's a tricky situation where we're balancing "realism" with "functional gameplay" aspects.

And the castle doctrine would play well with the gameplay aspect, making raiding more risky to undertake.
Most civilized countries outlawed ownership of weapons as well or it's at least not as easily to attain as it is in America, but in Salem you can own as many guns and swords with the proper skills as you want.

While potentially true, Jorb believes differently if my experience with him proves true:

He doesn't generally agree with legal systems on the concept of justice. More to the point he seems to believe (this is a paraphrase, but I know I'm not entirely wrong) every action we can and will take equivalents a crime against others by the exclusionary principle of reality. If I eat that blueberry on the ground, no one else can eat it. In salem, the more destructive the crime, the more action is available to be taken against you. And killing someone knocked out on your claim IS still a crime, because they are losing a character for what amounts to you being annoyed at them.

Don't forget: Noobs often wander onto claims not fully understanding the crime mechanic and get KOed there. By your rule, you should just outright murder these players when in reality they did nothing wrong other than misread or choose not to read a tutorial in incredibly tiny text.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

This would make sense if making alts for crime wasn't the norm in the game. And alt chars devalue the whole "high risk, high reward" paradigm of raiding, making it advantageous just for the attackers.

Soooo, let's just remove any risk to the crime skills (you know, the high risk, high reward ones) cause someone that doesn't even read the ingame tutorial may be killed cause of that?
Man, and then they call me a carebear...

Name these countries, please. I can't think of a country one where weapons are outlawed. (It's the dictatorial regimes that have outlawed weapon ownership, and for good reason... and armed population will take down a bad government.) I think the phrase your looking for is "restricted" use of weapons. After all, I have kitchen knives that would, if I carried them out of my kitchen, be considered a weapon. Heck, Canada has one of the highest ownership rates of guns in the world per capita (actually the highest, but can't recall the statistics off hand and don't want to be "wrong") and one of the lowest gun death rates in the world.

Just remember: people will kill each other whether they have weapons or not. Having a handgun just makes it easier than carrying knives (and is infinitely more traceable).

Apologies for the tangent... ignorance on this matter just really irks me.

Anyway, while digging up the Castle Doctrine is all well and nice, 'law' in Salem is a much older concept: an eye for an eye, biblical law, what have you. Basically, the concept of killing is wrong no matter what reason you do it.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

According to wikipedia, canada has the 13th most guns per capita. States is 1st. Dunno where that stat came from. However: We're 19th for gun fatalities in the world so something's doing ok about our laws.

And JeffGV? I'm a huge carebear. :3

Since people decided to go off topic and not answer your question, no. He's knocked out for 24 hours (real time) or until you send him home ( I believe thats a right click option). When the 24hours expires, he auto-teleports away as he awakes, like if you were knocked out somewhere else. Iirc he auto-teleports to boston. So no you cant griefer trap a criminal :P
