Are wall sections tougher to bash than gates?

I'm just curious because I came across a raided village over the weekend and the perps had gone through the front gates, which had a claim over them. There were huge sections of wall that had no claim at all. I've been sitting here trying to figure out why they chose to go through the gates that were claimed and flanked with braziers when there were other areas that had no protection at all.

Walls and gates are the same. Gate can be bashed by 2 ppl at same time and that's the only difference.
