You can also store them inside a church. They will not decay there.

They will. Like I said, they will disappear when they take a decay tick. It just doesn't happen when the tile is unloaded so if you don't spend a lot of time in church, your animals will have a good chance to last a long time. Much safer to put them in sleds though.

Really? I was always told the church negated decay entirely and I kept some bears in there for months before I finally cut them up. That is with us going in and out of the church multiple times daily since our primary storage and beds were placed in there.

It's been so long ago that I bearly remember, but iirc I used my mine for animal storage, and never lost a single carcass, until a certain patch and then they were all gone at once, but I might remember that wrong, might have been back on Roanoke, who knows...

If it can help you, my oldest animals, at entrance, are still here. And the ones I lost were 30 to 36 tiles away from entrance.
