So, I got this idea from the newbie videos posted by Paradoxyc. And I was wondering, if you take a wagon west, can you bring your friends? Or do they get dropped somewhere else?

This wagons you mean are the fast travel to some travelpoints.
West one goes to limers front, north one to Ufo and south one to the sundial.
You can see this points, when you look to a New World survey.

When you want to get your friends to your base, then you have to create a New World Survey next to your base, not on claimed area.
Then give it to your friend and he can use the travelguys left side of church.
They have not to use them before, because you can just use them one time.
