Braziers vs Torchposts

Postby ramuller » Thu Nov 29, 2012 11:14 pm

A while back there were questions of how damage works with a mixture of Braziers and Torchposts attacking the same character. We were concerned that the damage formula might mean that a brazier and a torchpost might actually cause less damage than the brazier alone. Do we have an answer to this yet? I wonder if we should rip out our torchposts as we start installing braziers.

It is a question of cash flow -- do I leave my lands unprotected while raising silver for the iron bars (and also putting off expanding my farm) or do I invest in a bit of deterrent and delay the large expense of braziers until I have stuff to protect that is more valuable than the braziers themselves?

However, the question still remains: do the current torchposts make my braziers more or less effective when their action areas overlap?

Considering torch post do nothing you always go for the braziers. as to their effectiveness with braziers i have no idea, i don't see why it would make them better or worse. they are going to suck either way.

Based on the formulae in the wiki: a torchpost and a brazier sitting next to each other might have a damage of (1 + 3)/(1 + 2*0.2) = 2.857 (depending on how the mix is handled) rather than the damage of 3 for the brazier alone. Thus the original question.

It is even worse if you are correct in saying that torches do nothing since then it would be 3/1.4 damage; however, I assume the torchpost bug you are reporting will be fixed.
