Paving

what is the purpose of paving? i know in H&H u need to pave to place certain structures but this doesn't seem to be the case in Salem. I'm starting to set up a new, better designed camp and was wondering if i should be paving the ground first

Its only purposes seem to be decoration, and to stop the default biome from coming back. Also, I don't think forage-ables will spawn on paving, but I could be wrong.

I was told that paving would prevent not only forageables but also snakes from popping up in my compound.

The default biome does slowly encroach over paving and will eventually cover it, over the course of days and weeks.

I *think* that there is way to stop biome overgrowth. If you pave a tile, then destroy it (by digging that square) I believe that square of bare ground stays bare with no overgrowth. At least that's how it used to be, it might have changed. But if you then pave over that again, it should "stick" that way, or at least for a very long time. It's easy enough to test.

It's not like that anymore, it's grown back over a patch of pavement I destroyed.

I think it also depends on the Biome. When I built in badlands I got encroachment, but now that I am on grassland, I don't seem to have any.
