The compost is loaded if the red bar goes up
1 humus is ready in 2 hours so for 10 humus you need to wait 20 hours.
Worm efficiency is only relevant if your worms have purity

Take organic products (split cabbage, sliced pumpkin, meat, plucked turkey or such) and right-click that on the compost bin to fill the bar up.

Worms will only be useful when you'll want purity humus for your gardening pots (and you'll need purity python worms fed from you purity cabbages or just bought from stalls/players).

Meat shreds work the best for filling the compost bins but for that you must have some butchering skills and the biles to kill animals with a lot of meat like deer.
Before doing that you can just fill them with nuts, berries or random plants/bugs

Technically you cant put meat in a compost bin because it would give you e coli.

Actually, if It's an active enough compost bin/heap and gets plenty of air, the good bacteria will work much faster than the bad. Or if you cook the meat first, this also goes a long way to solving the problem.

some small tips
if you cant find pythons get some royal jelly ( buy it if you have too ) and feed the worm with it and it will become a python these are far more efficent than worms.

get yourself a wicker basket place python in centre and fill all the other slots with high purity cabbage ( buy it if you have too ) after a time the phython will eat the cabbage and gain purity this eventualy will pass on to your humus.

dont forget to place wood chips on your feilds after planting and fertalising this will bring the ammounts of both seeds and humus needed to replant down

the NPC stall dosnt care what purity your cotton is bash it out as fast as you can its pure money making which you can invest in jelly, cabbage and all other player sold items to invest in growing other purty food stuffs
