Need help with combat

Postby dmzdad » Mon Nov 26, 2012 1:22 pm

I really like this game so this is not a complaint. I just want to understand combat because I cant progress without killing rabbits and crickets... My stats are blood 17, phlegm 11, yellow bile 7, black bile 13 I have studied self-defense and backalley pugilism.

My usual combat attempts are to approach a target (rabbits only, that is the only target i have ever successfully killed), activate guard, then execute a stomp by pressing the hot key and having my mouse hover over the target.

Everytime (and i do mean EVERYTIME) I begin to execute the attack, the target will move away, the character will finish the move, and then i will be in combat. Most times, doing no damage and definitely not stunning the target. After that, i attempt to execute punch (i dont bother with the other attacks because it generally means I will die earlier) I do this by pressing the hot key and hovering the mouse in the direction i THINK the target is going to approach. I say that because if i initiate the attack when the target is close to me, by the time i finish the move, the target will have moved away. I continue this until i get lucky enough to guess the right angle or i run out of yellow bile (which of course means I am going to die because i cant replenish nor break combat)

If this is how combat is suppose to work, please let me know so I can accept it. If not, please advise me on what I am doing wrong and how I can fix it. thanks for any help.

Don't use stomp. Only time it is good is if you time it right on people or animals aproaching.

use uppercut until you get a sword and then just thrust

Go close to animal:
-turn on guard
-hover mouse over it and punch
Now animal will start moving around, just move around a bit too and when you see it's coming directly after you(to attack), move mouse in its direction and punch again.
^Repeat till it's dead.

When you try punching and animals is just moving around/dodging it will move away from your attack and counterattack you.. So stop spamming attacks and just counterattack :)

Agreed,

Apparently stomp was originally overpowered and was tamed to make it more situational. It changed to aggro the creature at the start of the action and, from what I read, is timed so that you can no longer perma-stun them.

Older combat strategies that heavily relied on stomp are obsolete.

How to kill rabbits and cricks easily:

Approach creature and Uppercut it
Move one tile to opposing direction to which creature started running
Activate stomp while still being with your back towards creature
Creature starts running towards you and gets caught into stomp
Approach and Uppercut it again
Pickup dead critter

But you should raise your Yellow bile to at least 15 for hassle free rabbit and cricket hunting.

stomp use to be the only move to use with animals
