i heard that new walls dont give splash, got to be 2 weeks old to splash

Yes, this is true. You don't need 6 free tiles so long as you keep anyone from building walls outside your base and then leaving them there for weeks at a time. One is enough to make them stand on your claim while trying to break your wall.

The extra tiles could come in handy if you ever take a vacation, or if you ever pull a JC and disappear for over a month.
