Even had they broken though the Brick... the defenses...with sufficient fuel... would continue non-stop... until they broke through 2nd layer defenses.

Didn't you drop all your stuff on the ground and destroy most of your town's structures the moment someone dropped a waste claim on you? With no sign of raiders?

I know a lot of people recommend some ridiculous layers and layers of walls and braziers and empty spaces, but it's a willingness to defend yourself and your town/claim/home that will help you the most in the end. Whatever the strategy someone might use to try to attack you, I can't emphasize enough how important some good combat experience is. Too many people overlook this and then end up being so terrified of attackers who might not even be very good fighters that they run away or just cower and hope for the best. I know this is a bit off topic, but it's worth saying. Combat is the best defense.

On a similar note, what about people being able to walk on vClaims? I was scouting for a suitable location to settle I came across several villages, but was unable to walk on the village claim.

Is there some setting a mayor can enable that causes that? Or was it becuase I was already in another village?

most likely because there was an underlying pclaim of exactly the same size as the village claim.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

This is the most likely scenario, but if you were on a mount then that is why you couldn't go on the village claim.
For some reason you can only walk on other villages, but not ride.

that was changed recently IIRC, because you would not notice the 'claim change' until dismounting, effectively losing the mount in the process to the town claim.
