Cant use own claim

Postby nomenclate » Sat Nov 24, 2012 3:02 am

So I built a stake claim, but when I attempted to use it it says "someone else owns this claim", beyond building the stake claim is there anything else you need to do?

You got a Writ from somewhere other than the Company Store. When purchased, the Writ is attuned to the purchasing character and when a claim is built, that character then owns the claim. Sorry about any losses you might have. The only thing I can suggest is to get enough humors to steal what is on the claim off, but there probably isn't anything there worth the risk.

That would explain it. The the writ was purchased via my alt, not the char that build the claim. There's nothing of value on it, except my KO'd body and a metal axe that I'm sad to see go :-/

This was... Unexpected... *sigh*

If your alt bought the claim from the company store, he can add your main and give him permission to use the claim. He can also walk up and send him home to boston so you can play on your main again.

All is not lost :)
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Ran into the same exact problem, was a very frustrating situation considering my alt was locked up nice and tight in one of my other claims, there should be more information when purchasing claim writs.

I do believe it says in the description of the writ that the claim may only be used by the purchaser. Small print, but it is there.

No joy can add him as Kin, but I don't know how to get my alt to where this claim is.

Now that my alt and main are kined, the game does say the land is owned by my alt, but my alt can't port to it. Also looks like my main is perma KO'd, he's just stuck there on the claim and can't go back to Boston. Thought /something/ would have changed after 24hrs but no joy.

*sigh*

I don't mind the writ being purchaser specific, my bad for not reading I guess.

It is however annoying that it lets another char use it at all (should kick an error IMO), I'm also a little annoyed that by using it with another char I've gotten my main into a state where he's is not dead, but effectively not unusable even after 24hrs. and my alt now has a "claim" he owns but otherwise is unable to reach.
