How to equip objects in hand?

This is a really ridiculous question but yea I went to my inventory and tried to drag the hickory nut from the tutorial quest to the hand slot and it won't stay :/.

Not necessary. To feed Nubz, pick the nut up with your mouse and right click on him

when you click it is in both ands but to chop you have to put in one hand as tool. use item as justclicking.
