That's your madness level, it's currently 0.
Jesus died for our sins. You should do the same.

but the number says 1?

now i read on wiki (http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Insanity):
"Even at madness 0 there is a:
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they are entirely positive that they are a turkey.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode known as Meow Meow.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they decide to adopt a pet Termite in their inventory. His name is Steve.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they feel the need to get naked, put on some poison ivy underwear, and party.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they invent the world greatest digging tool and cannot understand how it was never invented sooner.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they find the world's largest Salami.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where their own blood is found all over the cloth produced from a loom.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they meet The Precious.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where they create a TimberTerror.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode while planing boards.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where an all-consuming flame washes over their inventory.
Bats spawn while mining tiles in a mine as a result of a Psychotic Episode. This means bat spawning on the whole should be less.
Players may experience a Psychotic Episode where their goods become covered in slime."

so all those thing will be happening to me now?

If you hover over your biles you can see its madness level 0, its on the bottom of the tooltip that shows up. So when the number next to your biles reaches 2, you have 1 madness level.

My client shows madness from 1 to X, i.e. 1 is the lowest.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

you will get the "you gained a madness level" each time when you log in, when your madness is not at the lowest level. Just a reminder.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Yes, this things can happen to you.
The text was copy&paste from Patchnotes. I think at Madness 0 (Shows in your custom client with 1) you are safe. Maybe i should look if the Insanity/Madness page correct at all.
If you are new to game then you will be the first hours of gameplay safe from gaining Insanity.
But after that you will gain constantly if you don't do anything against, like studying things or whittling from time to time.
But be careful, there are also other things that give Insanity like licking moldy boards or wringing necks of turkeys and so on.

A teddy helps only for lowering your Madness level and if you sleep with him in a bed.
Normal sleeping in a bed lowers a bit your Insanity.

Don't be too scary about Insanity and Madness.
You will learn how to handle with time and the psychotic episodes have in the first Madness Levels a lower chance to happen than in later Madness Level.

If you gain a Madness Level (shows 2 at custom client), then ask if you something not understand.
