Hunting Animals Vanish?

Hello, i just hunted 2 Argopelters, right clicked on butcher an they just vanished the next second without giving me any skinned argopelter?

any reason?

I have had this happen a couple of times as well. It was mostly when it took me a while to kill after I kitted it far from its spawn location and into a grass biome.

I think the real response is you would not have been able to kill the animal at all. You cannot touch a cricket until you have bug hunting why would it be different?

Because the Argopelter likely attacked you first. You can't initiate combat, but you can defend yourself and kill the animal if it agros on you.

If you get agressed by an animal you do not have the skill to kill, you may still damage it (IE: killing snakes that agro you before you have small game hunting).

I'm assuming this also works for darkness monsters.
