Using a copper pot? Probably need to take the copper pot off the fire and place it back on the fire and start again.

Make sure to check a few things. One you have enough water in the pot. Another the fire places are somewhat bugged when working with pots you may need to remove the pot and then place the item back. Something tells me you are just missing water.

Do you have enough water? That may be the problem.

There is also a long-standing bug with pots that we haven't been able to find the cause of. Sometimes, when you start a fire under a pot that is already on the fire, it won't cook. Start the fire first, wait for coals, then put the pot on the fire, then add the cranberries. You should not have a problem if you do it in that order. In the future, check your items a few minutes after you put them in to see if they have begun to cook and if they haven't, remove and replace the pot.

Meow, I have noticed that the bug commonly occurred to me when I was away from the pot. When I would go into my mine and not come out for an extended amount of time after lighting a fire that had no coals. In the way of reproducing that specific bug I think the steps to reproduce are light the fire leave the area and don't come back. I think it has to do with what tiles are active or not when the coals appear and the pot does not recognize them.

Pots seem buggy atm I have had the same problem and have to remove the pot from fire, put in inventory and restart the process. Especially annoying with half cooked deer hooves/glue.
