1. No
2. Right click a barrel to do it.
3. The boston stall buys them for 4s each
4. He must have a claim, and you must have call of the wild; you right click a wilderness guide and then you enter in his homestead secret, press enter and click the button
5. Pick a bunch of branches, left click one and hold shift and right click a bunch of times in the stone circle. It will become a fire place. Make sure you don't have a singing log or any wood products that you don't want tossed in your inventory. Left click tinder and right click the fire pit, it might take a couple tries, and watch your blood, each unsuccesful attempt lowers it.

No, I don't believe the rare cobweb is worth anywhere near that much.

You set your homestead secret on your buddy list page and they type it in when they do the one free wilderness port they get.

Also, if you are planning on making a claim, there are probably more important things to spend your silver on than the backpack. I probably played 40 or 50 hours before I had the spare silver for one since I spent lots on expanding my farm and getting some compost bins and pottery equipment (need nails) first.

As for the trading through the barrel - you and your trade partner pick one of the barrels in Boston, and each of you places his goods in it. There is no trade mechanic - it's just a container. So you can easily be scammed if the other person doesn't place his items and takes yours. Because of that people tend to either divide their goods into small batches so that they don't trade and risk everything, or they trade only with trusted merchants - usually the ones with trade thread where at least couple of people gave positive feedback
