If you have friends, they can give you a party arrow home. Alternatively, if you're *really* lost you can give up what you've got to free tp home. Generally speaking get to learn the lay of the land asap to prevent this.

It's not a hard concept, it's just very different from Haven. Takes some adjusting to get used to. All the HnH vets went through it and mourned XD

Thank you for that bit of helpful tips mang. I still don't quite know about it though. Is there something that at least just makes it a little more bearable? Can you run? Can you ride on horses? or some other type of vehicle or transportation....thing? The Wiki isn't really that great just yet

Wander mode increases what you see a bit, speeds you up. Forage mode slows you down but lets you see rare things a lot more. There are currently boats and horses are intended (not sure how good they are though, and the boat degrade with use apparently).
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I was dubious it would work, since I crossed a desert, but soon there was a swamp and other little marks to memorize. I found a feather and made my walk back, luckily it was successful, but I guess it depends on how unique are your landmarks.

Do you have Ender's client? I know it/others I haven't checked, stores a pretty big minimap and allows you to pan around with it. 95% of the time the area around your homestead will still be visible on it when you're out foraging.

Ender's also can be told to save all your minimap segments and there is a tool to view them and even paste selected sessions together (works best if you always start your wandering session from your homestead). Over time, with a bit of work, you can get a pretty good map of your home region.

The only solution I have is saying "well, i guess I'm never going back home ever again. Just keep moving forever"

When I started out, I was a nomad for the first few days. I just kept walking, studying items as I went, and making a temporary leanto as needed until I found a good spot to set up a proper home. I came across several places that looked great and then as a scoped out the area more I would find that someone else had already moved in there. I would grumble and then start walking again. Eventually I did find a suitable location and by the time I got there, I had managed to work up a good bit of proficiencies and skills. I'm an H&H vet as well and there are definitely some things that take getting used to with Salem. However, my experiences in H&H did teach me one thing that helped keep me motivated while trying to find a location to settle down; I'd rather spend a couple of days as a nomad to find a good location than spend weeks setting up in a bad one.
