Farming...what color bars does Rye require?

Postby sirgringo » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:56 pm

I have a number of fields with various crops growing. I'm trying to get one or 2 of them to produce Rye. So far I've gotten a filed to produce Barley and Oat, but not Rye. I've looked over the wiki and the chart for tier 1, 2, and 3 crops but it doesn't say what color bars are needed. I have several hay stacks and spam the influence up to 1000 but what should I plant prior to that? I think it's cotton and cabbage or am I wrong?

Reference here: http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Agriculture

Crop Tiered products from Gives to
Cabbage 3 4 1
Ear of Cereal 4 1 2
Cotton 1 2 3
Pumpkin 2 3 4
Corn 1 3 2
Potato 3 4 1
Tobacco 1 2 3

The bar numbers are represented as left to right. So cereal requires 4 and 1 both at 100% to get to your tier 3 crops. 100% influence equals 5% of the bar that is planted. So if you spam it up to 1000% you are at 50 points on a base level field. So you need to plant two rounds of either cabbage or potato followed by two rounds of pumpkin at 100% influence for all 4 planting cycles.

To get Rye, you need to fill the Pink bar. That would be Pumpkins, and maybe Tobacco iirc. Pumpkins are your best bet. You're getting Barley from the red bar, and if you fill both red and pink, you can get some Wheat.

Tobacco = Cotton (in terms of influence on fields)

Having some fields set for just pumpkin and cereal works out well - once the bars have been filled you will get Rye (and oats) and if you harvest the pumpkins at their first stage you will get Small sugars (and baby bears) which are needed to make a really good pumpkin dish called Sugar delight.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Just a side note - pumpkins are good for filling the bar since they grow more slowly, giving you time to gather/dry vast amounts of grass into hay to boost the influence (how much the bar increases).

Of course if you have dozens of hay racks waiting you don't need to worry about it, but I think most are working on a day-to-day basis producing what they will use to fertilize as the crops develop.

I have about 10 fields but only use about 6 of them. I have 4 hay stacks and rotate them out every couple of days and fill all the files I currently have planted to %1000
