I have a regular place for a timber pile, no pavement. Probably 3 out of 4 cycles I get 100% dry boards. 1 out of 4 cycles I get 30-50% moldy. There is a random element, I've not seen pavement affect it. Except if you find a good spot it may be convenient to mark it with pavement so you can match the position exactly again in the future.

Pavement does not affect it. Only structures with hit boxes.

No it doesnt.

I paved an entire field with bricks of sodom & gomorrah and babel and jerichos just because I can and the timber pile not get moldy from it.

That is a curious statement. Does that mean chopped down tree logs do not affect the boards?

How hard is it to read, thats what he said.

Either way, pavement indirectly can influence your timber piles. It will prevent animals to spawn, those do have a hitbox and might end up influence your timber piles in a bad way.

Animals are not structure, and neither are people. It's okay for animals and people to walk past your timber piles.

^ Like TotayMeow said.

I had to verify the player/NPC issue, but the end result is simple.

The Only things that increase mold chances on a board pile are...
Objects you cannot walk through from every angle that are either static or semi-static(you can use LIFT to move them).

Anything you can walk through - including all forages and paving - has no effect.
Anything that is mobile or entirely non-static - including player characters, animals, and NPCs(not that they'll be near your claim) - have no effect.
