Dry boards question...

Postby sirgringo » Thu Jul 30, 2015 5:08 am

I was reading on the wiki about dry boards. It says that if placed next to any other item, (except tilled fields), that they will become moldy boards instead.
My lumber pile is next to a tilled field and also close to a coal clamp. Will that turn them moldy as well? I just placed the pile so if I remove the coal will that help?

Probably not, My assumption is that it checks for the presence of buildings or trees and stuff periodically, and it has long since confirmed it. Or it's a random chance, and you are screwed. My experience is that generally, you will. Even if it was a low chance per period of time, it seems to check often enough (if that's how it works exactly) that you get screwed.

TLDR: stuff near timber pile that shouldn't be, you get mouldy boards, probably.

Things with hit boxes are bad, so fields are fine as they have no hit box. The coal pile will have an effect. Every so often, the pile gets a tick where it has a chance to gain mold. If there are structures nearby that can affect the board pile, the mold chance will be greater. Once it gets moldy, the number of moldy boards keeps increasing until the pile finishes. So, it's possibly for the pile to be surrounded by structures and be perfectly clean. It's also possible for it to have nothing nearby and get an unlucky roll early on and end up almost all mold. If it's a single coal clamp, I wouldn't destroy it, just build more carefully in the future.
