Homestead Secret?

First of all, I apologize. I'm sure there is a page somewhere that already explains homestead secrets but I'm having a hard time finding it. Maybe someone could link the page for me?

I'm new and wondering how homestead secrets work. Is it safe to give my homestead secret to a stranger? And if it isn't safe, why? What can someone do if they have my homestead secret?

I have noticed traders are willing to give me their homestead secrets in order to kin me from long distances. Why is it that they are ok with giving me their secret?

It used to be if someone had your homestead secret and your homestead was a claimstone they could port an alt to your claimstone and it made the claimstone destroyable. Now the only thing someone can do with your homestead secret is kin you. Worst case scenario someone could kin you and spam your chat box. you can always unkin them and change your homestead secret.

Thanks for the reply. It's still confusing to me. I guess my main question is: If I give my homestead secret to a stranger, can they port to my homestead and take my stuff? It sounds like what you're saying is no.

They can not port to your home and take your stuff.

Can't teleport using HS anymore; you have to use a new world survey, which is a teleport that is limited to one use per character.

Wait, so if I use the NWS once, it consumes the map? or it makes it so my character can no longer port with NWS again?
(1 time use per survey? ----OR------ 1 time use per character?)
