Removing a House From Own Claim?

Postby Naithin » Mon Nov 12, 2012 4:08 am

Hi Guys,

I ran a search for this and checked Wiki but came up blank on an answer although I'm almost certain this would have been asked before, so apologies.

Question is, how does one remove a house (in this case, a Pilgrim's Hovel) from their own claim? I've whacked it with a shovel and then an axe to see if that'd make a difference through 3-4 full phlegm bars without it moving in progress by even 1%.

I've two theories on what the answer might be, but I hope that my first one is wrong and I don't want to experiment with the second in case the first is actually correct. ;)

1) Do you need the 'Waste' skill even to remove your own structures? This seems a little silly if so, but with not a single percent progress made, beginning to wonder..
2) Is it because there is a stove built inside which I need to remove first? I've taken all my boxes and things outside, but left the stove there.

Any help would be appreciated. I want to remove it because a) I didn't level the ground properly before starting to build on the claim and now it's beginning to bug me having differing areas and heights of flat ground ground, and b) because I'd like to place a farmer's house instead once the ground is all fixed up. :)

You don't have a high enough phlegm. Equipping an axe will help a bit.

The house has a flat damage "soak" that is applied. Without enough phlegm you will do 0 damage to it.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Thanks for the response, Sevenless. :) As an aside, your guide has been a godsend for me in getting started last week. Still referring to bits and pieces of it as I go.

Any idea of the Phlegm requirement to begin making a dent in the removal of it? At 18 max phlegm at the moment.

I think it takes somewhere between 30-40 if I remember right, before you start doing damage to high-soak structures. Someone will probably give a more exact amount but I believe its somewhere in that range anyway.

Thanks Slay, had a friend try it for me who has slightly better stats. It looked like the Pilgrim's Hovel has ~25 phlegm soak damage. Friend has 28 phlegm, and it seemed only the last 3 points of a full bar started counting, so would've been possible but somewhat impractical.

30-40 sounds like where it'd start being possible to destroy your own high-soak structures in a somewhat reasonable manner. :)

I will hijack the thread a bit.

How is damage to objects and soak calculated exactly? In H&H it was sqrt(strength) + bonus from weapon. But it would appear that in Salem damage equals to current phlegm? Does yellow bile have any impact here? How much different tools / weapons help when destroying objects?
