Try some dodging and hit the rabbit while it's performing it's attack.

Alternately, raise your humours.

Punch the rabbit once and then start walking away. When the rabbit is walking directly towards you wait until it gets about 3 tiles away from you, turn on guard and punch it again, rinse and repeat. This works on crickets too.

Yep the walking away makes their AI much more predictable. Without that it takes a lot more timing and practice to get it down.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

also, use the guard stance! It cuts down damage dramatically.

It does, but only if you can "see" the attack--get hit from the front in other words. It also requires yellow bile to have defenses active, but it's a very slow drain compared to the amount of damage that's reduced.
