Are there chat commands such as whisper or party chat enabled? I have tried all the usual /whisper [name] etc but to no avail. If there are any, a list of useful ones would be appreciated.

The different chat channels open as you are able to use them.
you need to either use the buddy list to invite to a party to speak in party chat.
to whisper someone you need to right click their name in the buddy screen and hit chat. if you don't have them kinned you need to right click and chat on their character.
