Sure, this may be true. You could argue the same thing about many things in Salem. Some of the trees we can grow in a week take decades to mature in the real world. Having leeches consume the blood after time would be a nice touch, even if it took a full week to drop a blood level. Hopefully you won't be needing to cure yourself daily..
