Trouble with farming

very noob here...

so i till the field, then put some humus in it

and then? i seem unable to plant seeds how do you do that?

also i can't put any fertilizer?

is farming onyl possible on claim?

Be sure you put enough humus and have enough seeds (50 for cereals).

I put 5 humus, and i have 100 seeds but noting happens when i put them in my hand and click the field

What are you trying to plant? Maybe you don't have the proper skill to do so.

i have agriculture and nothing else (no cabbage thingy) and was trying to plant cotton, is that a problem?

You need to learn Cotton Planting.

If you're planing to buy from the NPCs, don't do it. You can get cheaper seeds by looking through the blue player stalls, looking through the trade threads here, or just posting your own trade thread asking for a set of seeds.
