Taking over abandoned base- good or bad idea?

Postby ericbomb » Mon Sep 22, 2014 3:56 am

So while out exploring I came across a beat up (and griefed) base. But it still had quite a few walls still up, forge, windmill,a few braziers, ect. All that good stuff and I was thinking if I beat down a few walls and put up a few more it'd make a pretty nice base. But I was wondering, is this a good idea?

It was obviously not a random raid on a newbie, it was a powerful group wiping out another powerful group, would attempting to settle in old lands call attention from either of those two groups?

Wondering what you guys think on the issue.

I would not advise settling in a really big town that was raided as a lot of people will know where it is.
Something the size of the old sagecliff, a 100 tile town bell would not be too risky, but if it is as huge as you say i wouldnt setlle in it, rather scavange stuff from it if you can.

you should not rely on secrecy to protect you anymore. With a decent defense no-one will raid you for the stuff you have (but only for political reasons). Raiding is hardly worth it for the loot anymore.

Squat it, I say.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Jup, put down a claim of your own so they can't log chars into it that may have been left there. Fix the defenses and then move in. There should be no problems that way.

You may want to check if there are major factions nearby though. They might not be interested in raiding you but frequently running into people who may murder you while foraging is still a pain.

People who get good at things are people who are not afraid to make mistakes and experiment.

Do it and tell us how it turns out.

Although as people say, take reasonable precautions and hope for the best. If things go south, Zoidburg on out of there with your Nice Things and mournfully post about the injustice of people antisocially breaking your stuff.

It's quite possible the damage you see is not the result of a raid. Often it's just that the claim owner quit playing and the bell / pclaim ran out of silver. Then an explorer bashed a wall to take out some of the abandoned stuff.

Hmm I'm pretty certain it was a raid for two reasons. The first being the griefing. Building pilgrim hovels in front of forges and gates isn't something random explorers do. There were also two signs that had threats on them. So it makes me think it was surely a raid. I'll have to look into it more.

Hi

did you took every chests on this "base" ?
if so, I think it was my "base", I just logged on to see all my chests gone and a hole in my stone wall ...

I'm a newbie (only 2 months of playing alone to build this)
