Upkeed for Beginners

Postby Catote » Sun Aug 31, 2014 11:55 am

How exactly does upkeep work?
Wiki says:
All claims need upkeep of 4 + ('number of claimed tiles' / 300) per day. The claim stone can hold upkeep money for two months

My area is 728. Does that mean I must bring 4+728/300 = 6-7 silver to my claim stone every real day?
Right now I brought 380 silver to my claim stone, so that money is gone, but I didn't really see any effect. My claim was there before and after, all the same. Perhaps there's a delay before a claim is lost?
Any other tips much appreciated!

What change exactly did you expect? I think you mixed claim extension with the upkeep.

there is no visible change.
But if your claim runs out of silver (right click the stone to check how much silver it has left) anyone will be able to commit crimes on your land (trespassing/vandalism ones at least) without leaving scents. Your claim will still visually be there but it will no longer have any effect whatsoever on the world (with the exception that it will not allow new claims to be built close to it). If your claimstone runs out of silver, it also becomes destroyable.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Thanks Kandarim. Now it makes sense.
And it sounds correct too, that a small beginners claim (728) cost around 6-7 silver per real day. So for instance, I have to find one of those indian necklares and sell it to Boston once per week ...

you do not find that, you can make it with an Indian feather and an arrowhead when you get the skill Indian tracking.

Also if your claim is out of money your items and buildings will decay.

Not precisely related... but good to note.

If you find a claim that's empty...and want it for yourself. Destroy their claim and make your own. Long, long time ago when I first started- I added silver to the existing claim... thinking I could take it over... and then started leaving trespass scents when I didn't have permissions to the 'old' claim stone.

It's seems a little thing; just don't be that obtuse.
